By using Firearm Tracker you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
An independent service
Firearm Tracker is independent. We are not part of, or endorsed by, the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Central Firearms Register or any government department. We don't process, approve or refuse applications, and we can't speed one up.
SAPS is the official source
Statuses come from the public SAPS firearm enquiry page. We show SAPS's wording and add our explanation. If what we show ever differs from what SAPS shows or tells you, SAPS is right. For anything official about your application, speak to the Designated Firearms Officer (DFO) at your police station.
Information, not legal advice
Our guides, timelines and help assistant give general information about the firearm licensing process. They are not legal advice and don't take your own circumstances into account. Before you act on a refusal, a late renewal or anything with legal consequences, speak to a lawyer or your accredited association.
| What we show | How to treat it |
|---|---|
| A status from SAPS | SAPS's answer at the moment we checked. It can change. |
| Our explanation of a status | Our best plain-English reading, based on published sources. |
| Official figures, such as targets and fees | Correct as published at the date we give. Confirm current fees with your DFO. |
| Reported figures, from trackers or applicants | A guide only. We label them so you can tell them apart from official ones. |
No guarantee of accuracy or availability
We work hard to keep our information right, but we can't guarantee that it is complete, accurate or up to date. Laws, fees and SAPS procedures change. The SAPS enquiry page can be slow, unavailable or change how it works, and when it does our checks may fail or be delayed. We may change, pause or stop any part of the service.
Acceptable use
Please use Firearm Tracker fairly. You agree to:
- only check applications you are entitled to check, such as your own, or someone else's with their permission;
- not use the service to look up other people's applications by trying numbers;
- not run automated or bulk lookups, or do anything that puts an unfair load on our service or on the SAPS enquiry page;
- not try to break, probe or interfere with the service.
We may block access where we see misuse.
Your account
Your account and saved applications are stored in our database. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for anything done with your account. Use a password you don't use anywhere else. Our privacy policy explains what is stored.
Cost
Checking a status and saving your applications are free. If we ever add paid features, we will say so clearly before you pay for anything.
Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using, or not being able to use, Firearm Tracker, or from relying on its information. That includes a missed renewal date, a missed appeal deadline, or a decision made by SAPS. Keep track of your own deadlines from the documents SAPS gives you. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under South African law that cannot be excluded.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms. The latest version is always on this page. These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. Last updated: [date to be added at launch].
